The complications of the thyroid gland can lead to an insufficient circulation of the thyroid hormone thus causing Hypothyroidism. The causing of the condition manifests as a decrease in the body metabolism along with the degradation of mental and physical performance.

Nasya Therapy

Nasya Karma as it is generally called, involves the injection of medicated oils and powders through your nasal passage.

The treatment is part of the five-pronged Panchakarma treatment and is an Ayurvedic therapy used to build immunity, detox and restore balance of the body. A special vessel is used to pour medicated oil inside your nostrils, tilting your head at an angle.

Dough Basti treatment

Dough Basti is a container that holds warm herbal oil over the thyroid or adrenal glands. Depending on your body nature and the specific problem with the thyroid gland, various oils and herbs are prescribed by the specialist.

Foot Massage

Points occur on your feet that directly relate with the throat chakra or called the Vishuddhi chakra. Massage these points for about 2.5 minutes to mitigate thyroid dysfunction. They are located at the inner edge of the ball of the feet. Do note that a semi-circular movement should be used for massaging.

Dhara and Shirodhara

Dhara is the treatment where a stream of medicated oils is poured on the affected area using a Dhara pot. In the case of Hypothyroidism, this is used for thhe treatment of the Vishuddhi chakra or throat chakra.

Whereas in Shirodhara, a warm liquid is poured as a thin stream on the forehead continuously. This helps in restoring the proper functioning of mainly the psychological processes and the immune system along with the nervous system of the body.

Foods to avoid

Ayurveda sees Hypothyroididsm as caused by an imbalance of Kapha (water) and Meda (fat). Thus if you have hypothyroidism, you need to limit the quantities of the following: Sweet potatoes, broccoli, lima beans, maize, cauliflower, soy, cabbage.

Along with this you need to strictly avoid foods such as added sugars, enriched milk, hydrogenated vegetable oil, red meat, caffeine and iodine rich foods etc.
